Guest Loft remodel

This residential project was a super fun design challenge for our team to tackle.

A+E Design Lab was brought on board to transform a second-story loft, comprising a single open room split into two areas by an open stairwell. A very small ‘R/V’ sized half-bath was existing, and in great need of a refresh. The task was to create a hotel-like suite, complete with full bath, kitchenette, and eating, sitting and sleeping areas. We were asked to maximize the space in ways that were functional and sensible, while also accounting for the constraints of the loft’s footprint, and leaving the existing windows and stairwell in place.

With a firm budget and schedule to meet, we crafted solutions that truly kept the needs of the owner at the forefront. By adding a full-height wall to one side of the stairwell and a half-wall on the other, the newly separated bath and living rooms ended up feeling spacious and practical. The utilization of the entire loft was optimized with the addition of a kitchenette, eating area and closets under the eaves.

Now overnight guests have ample room so as to be comfortable enough to stay awhile, shower, eat, sleep and generally enjoy the nature-filled surroundings of the rural neighborhood beyond.
